Definition
IEC 62443 is the international series of standards for the cybersecurity of industrial automation and control systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI, field networks). It differs from office IT security in that production must not stop and human safety comes first: even patching a plant system needs a planned stop. The standard requires dividing the plant into zones and the transitions between them (conduits), setting a target security level per zone, controlling remote access and having suppliers develop products securely. As incidents of ransomware stopping production lines increase, it has become the basic reference for manufacturers and machine builders.
How SMB Teknoloji uses it
We segment OT networks into zones on IEC 62443 principles, bring remote access to PLC and SCADA under control and prepare the security section of machine builders' CE files.
