Definition
ONVIF is an open interface standard created so that IP cameras and recorders from different manufacturers can talk to each other. An ONVIF-compliant camera can connect to another brand's ONVIF-compliant recorder; video, motion detection and camera movement (PTZ) commands travel in a common language. It is the main tool for staying vendor-independent: when the recorder is replaced the cameras are not wasted, and new cameras need not be the same brand. Profile names (S, T, G and so on) show which features are supported. When choosing a camera, a written ONVIF profile matters more than the brand.
How SMB Teknoloji uses it
Because we work vendor-neutrally we install only cameras and recorders with a documented ONVIF profile; if your existing cameras support ONVIF they move to the new recorder.
