Definition
An HMI is the touch screen on the machine: the operator starts and stops the machine from it, selects recipes and sees alarms. It talks directly to the PLC; unlike SCADA it focuses on a single machine or line. On a well-designed HMI colour appears only for abnormal states, alarm texts say what to do, and the most common action takes two touches. A badly designed HMI is the hidden cause of operator errors and long stoppages. The screen project and language files should be handed to the plant just like the PLC program.

We draw HMI screens on ISA-101 high-performance interface principles, prepare them multilingually and hand over the project file.
