Definition
HL7 (Health Level Seven) is the messaging standard that lets software in healthcare institutions exchange patient, appointment, order and result information. Classic HL7 v2 messages have been used for decades between laboratory analysers and the hospital information system (HIS), between HIS and imaging or pharmacy software: a patient is admitted, the order appears on the analyser, the result returns automatically. The newer HL7 FHIR does the same with web technologies (REST, JSON) and is preferred for mobile apps and cloud integrations. A result retyped by hand means errors; HL7 integration removes both the errors and the waiting time.
How SMB Teknoloji uses it
We connect laboratory and imaging devices to the HIS with HL7 v2, ASTM and FHIR; message traffic stays within the institution and is logged.
