Definition

Storage is the shared system that holds a company's data: not the disk of a single PC but a separate device or server that several servers and users reach over the network, with disks running redundantly. Disks are grouped in RAID layouts so that one failing disk does not lose data and the system keeps running. Capacity grows by adding disks. Storage comes in two forms: NAS for file sharing and block-level SAN for virtualisation and databases. Storage is not a backup; a backup is a copy of the data on the storage kept somewhere else.

How SMB Teknoloji uses it

In server and virtualisation projects we size the storage from a needs analysis: how many users, which applications, how many years of growth. Installation covers RAID layout, network links and monitoring; backup goes to a separate target and a restore test is run.
